Liquor, Mags, and Books on Wheels: A DIY.

DSC_0068
Since I found my chair and ottoman, I’ve been frequenting the same thrift store to see what I can find. I recently found this table and gave it some TLC last weekend. This is what it looked like before:

As you can see it was not so good looking. With a price tag of $5.00, I figured it was worth the risk to see if I could restore to it to the potential image that I conjured up in my mind. To tackle the project, I first made a trip to Lowes and bought

two cans of premium Rust-o-leum high gloss white spray paint. I already had that spray attachment pictured. It makes it easier to spray paint and I have more control over the process. The Minwax Lacquer clear satin finish and sealer was purchased at Walmart. However, I am sure one can get that at Lowes or Home Depot too. I chose spray painting over painting (using a brush)because the piece is small and there is less mess and less cleaning up involved. I want to also add that I lightly sanded the piece and cleaned it thoroughly prior to painting. I didn’t prime it because I purchased a Premium Spray paint, but I would recommend priming prior too.

I also purchased new casters since the piece was missing one. Those were purchased from Lowes.

I am pleased with how it turned out and I love its versatility. I can use it to store my books/magazines and also, I can wheel my liquor from room to room. Gotta love that! If you have a Harris Teeter(those of you residing in the States)near you, they are having a sale on the Cavit Pinot Grigio!Smile. As you can see, I’m going to need another bottle soon…

I purposely chose those casters/wheels with a hint of copper because I love how they contrast with the white.  This thrift find was definitely worth the $5 splurge, don’t you think? I am loving the weather right now, so this weekend is sure to be a great one! I hope it will be the same for you too!! Enjoy! XX

Simply Wonderful Apartment

Wow! This place is almost perfect -  Living room, dominated by the cool danish modern sofa, stylish work place with a very cool lighting,  minimalistic kitchen and of course huge dining area with a great combination of mid century chairs by Eames and Arne Jacobsen.

It is clearly visible that it is located inside some 1900s house and I must say I love those kind of places, especially when original wood paneling is still present. Overall this place is a huge inspiration for my new place. Unfortunately source of the pics is unknown.

Open Shelves in the Kitchen.

OpenShintro
I really love the look of having open shelves in ones kitchen showcasing ones beautiful wares. But, I struggle enough with having a clutter free countertop that I know whilst I really, really love this look, I would be crazy to embrace it in my own kitchen. I am not very efficient at consistently keeping things organized where I would  feel comfortable enough to dare 'place it all on display'. In fact, I am happy that I am able to hide all my “disorganization” behind my lovely cupboard doors. Nonetheless, each time I see

a kitchen space like this with open shelves with everything looking so pretty AND organized, I feel warm and fuzzy inside.

How do you all feel about open shelves in the kitchen? One day, when my boys are older, maybe then I'll have the time to be able to keep it all organized in the kitchen and show it all off with my open shelves... Happy Tuesday everyone and a warm welcome to my new readers:-)! XX

P.S. Apologies about the lack of posts and visits. I’ve  just been extremely busy being Mommy.

Two Sweet Scandinavian Interiors from Elle Interior

I found those nice photos from the recent Swedish Elle Interior and I instantly fell in love with both places. Especially the spacious kitchen in the first one is wonderful along with the black and white themed bathroom - I want some tiles like this in my new bathroom as well.

Designers Apartment in Antwerp

I´v got an e-mail from a graphic designer Davy Dooms that he recently finished renovation of his new 850-square-foot apartment located in an Art Nouveau house in Antwerp. I think that it ended up wonderfully - result is a clear, airy space with a decent but very stylish mid century decor. And of course - the fireplace is absolutely gorgeous!

Chic and Clean House in Spain

I love retro styled, scandinavian design filled interiors but sometimes even minimalistic, clean space catches my eye. I totally like the kitchen with the massive wooden table and set of Eames chairs and also the cozy living area.

Nordic Elegance

I really like the decent color scheme used in this lovely apartment decorated by Mood House. There is a nice combination of old and new decor all over the place and also some very clever styling ideas.

Highlight here is for sure the living room with the very cool pendant lights and variable shelving unit but also the work area is very nicely decorated with all the small details like artwork or work tools on wall.

Happy house of AprillAprill

I really like this positive, playful house of blogger AprilApril - lots of nice artwork and vintage Scandinavian items everywhere. My favorite place is the kitchen and a  wonderful dining area ( love the string unit there!)

Beautiful mid century modern themed house

This is really a wonderful example of mid century styled house, there is almost everything you may like about this era, from Scandinavian to American design icons - Poul Henningsen, Stig Lindberg, Cathrineholm,  Eames, Nelson, Noguchi and much more of sweet things can be spotted around the place.
