Cottage by the Lake in Denmark

They sure know how to make a cozy summerhouse in Scandinavia, like this cute little "cottage" by the lake Arresø. A bit of rawness and rustic elements mixed with mostly clean white walls and natural brown tones creates calm atmosphere ideal for spending a relaxing weekend here.

A Villa in Greece Beckons….

gr
When we lived in Vicenza Italy, a visit to Greece was on our wishlist since it was almost a stone throw away. However, we had way too many places that we wanted to visit and not enough time, so we never made it to Greece.

gr1
It’s still on my wishlist though. For now, I’ll enjoy this villa that beckons to every fiber of my summer loving being…

What are your plans for the weekend my friends? Today, we get up to 11o degrees. Yikes! So keeping myself, my boys, and Ginger(our dog) cool this weekend is my priority. However, I hope to finish some projects this weekend so I can tell you all about them next week. We’ll see. Have a fantastic weekend my friend. Also, a warm welcome to my newest readers! XX

Gallery Walls: Keeping Them in Place.

frms
I’ve always admired gallery walls and I’m currently collecting frames to start my own. I love this one above showcasing some family pics and really just an eclectic mix of pieces that the homeowners love.  I imagine that one has to have a plan before executing a gallery wall, placement and probably most importantly, hardware to hang the pieces.

frms1
It makes sense to have a reliable gallery hanging system to ensure that your pictures or paintings stay in place. Can you imagine sleeping and having one of those hanging above the bed falling on you? Scary thought, no? So, I say just do it right even if it takes you a bit longer.

frms2
Which gallery hanging system do you use? Where in your home do you have your gallery wall(if you have one)? I’m thinking of placing mine in my foyer.

blogged about this here before but had to share again(one of my faves)
Have a fabulous Thursday everyone! XX

Sitting Pretty: Before & After.

Jul 22, 2012 7.08.07 PM
Ok, y’all I’m going to put my best face forward and do what I do best; talk about design and stuffSmile.  Let’s cheer up and have some fun, shall we? I am blessed to have each of you as a reader and friend and I appreciate all of your support from the bottom of my heart.
O.K. so, I always wonder why great design has to be so out of reach for folks like myself who actually have a budget. Do you ever have that thought? For e.g., I am smitten with DWR but cannot afford most of the things I love there. So far, I’ve bought only 3 or 4 pieces from them, BUT, I really cannot make it a habit to shop there; way to exorbitant, plus, I. have. children to. clothe. and. feed.
What’s the alternative; shopping smartly with a sharp eye and seeing the potential in pieces. The beauty above is a vintage Adrian Pearsall.  It caught the hubby’s eyes a couple months ago when we were visiting a store called hipsteriamodern in Raleigh. If you’re in Raleigh, N.C., they are worth a trip!  He got it home, chose the fabric and dropped it off at the same gentleman who reupholstered my rocker and ottoman.  Now that it’s home, I think the hubby is going to have to go hunting for another chair for himself when he returns. This is MINE!!Smile.  Do you notice the depth and the height; sheer comfort I tell you! DWR “ain’t got nothing on me”!!:-
Here’s the Before:

before pic from hipsteria
Pretty fabric and colour but it  was worn and the frame of the chair though very sturdy needed just a bit of work

I think all that is needed now is a tiny ottoman and  one of Jill’s throw pillows from her Live Like You store(another must stop to shop!).  The hubby did great didn’t he? Of course, the chair is not in its desired location in the house because Baby Ian and his things have taken over all the prime real estate in the house. XX

Tasty Swedish Apartment

The kitchen in this flat is something that immediately caught my attention, I really like this simple and elegant solution, even it may not be so much practical.   I must also adore the wood paneling all over the place - such a cool thing to have at home. The art composition on the wall with a big dining table is just awesome.

Broken Hearted.

Barely home, and now he’s off again. The hubby is being whisked off to war again for another deployment and I’ve been an emotional wreck. We’re close to the ten times mark for the number of times that he’s left and I’d say that’s way too many for just one family. Enough is enough, don’t you think?  Wearing the title of army wife, military spouse is usually a great honour.  However,  it’s become quite burdensome and emotionally draining… XX

P.S. On another note, most of you have been on a couple deployment journey with me, given me virtual hugs etc. Thank you. That makes y'all family:-)

P. P.S. That’s my new wall paper in the background(in the powder room). When I’m in a better mood, I’ll show you the bathroom makeover.

A Cottage in Arkansas.

I. LOVE. THIS. COTTAGE. Even more so because the exterior colour(s) remind me a lot of my own home.

A loft above the kitchen. How cool!

A platform bed with lots of storage beneath. Yes please!

Hens Mary Jean and Virginia seem right at home in the back. Does anyone have hens in their back yard? I have been seriously thinking about getting a couple hens. I think we’re allowed to have at least four here in NC. Anyway, charming cottage, is it not? Happy weekend everyone! XX

P.S. The giveaway winner will be announced on Sunday. Thank you all for participating!
