Constantly Learning

Whoever said blogging was easy may have been right. But what isn’t always easy are the technicalities. For instance I like to type in Microsoft Word for posts simply because of spell check and word count. However, whenever I copy and paste Microsoft Word into my blog post an error seems to show up in my feeds.

I am constantly learning new things every day and that’s not an understatement. The greatest asset I’ve found is Google. I Google everything I want or need to know. Sometimes I find the answer and sometimes I don’t. It’s trial and error. For instance, to number comments in blogger is quite easy. I use some online tutorials to give me the codes but if you find the wrong tutorial it can really screw up your html. You have to be particular because some tutorials are outdated.

If you ever dabble in easy web design software, html, template design, or other just is sure to always back up your blog first. That is the biggest mistake I think a lot of bloggers make when they try to do things on their own. What about you? What have you learned since you started blogging that might help your fellow bloggers out?

Maybe one day!

Are there things you would like to change, upgrade or fix in your home?  I have a few spots that irk my husband and I but we are waiting for the right time to tackle these issues.  Price and time are big factors.  We are a bit lucky that my husband can do the labor work but we want to make sure that we plan accordingly.

Last year a bathroom was remodeled in our home and was upgraded to beautiful porcelain tile flooring.  Upgrading Home flooring really can do wonders to a room.  It is a million times easier to keep clean and really makes the bathroom look snazzy.   My husband would love to do this in our kitchen and at our front door to preserve future new carpet.

I can’t wait because currently we have linoleum in our kitchen that is quite old and has seen better days by far.  I can bleach it on my hands and knees and it still not look clean with the nicks in it.  The same goes for our very old living room carpet.  No matter how much I vacuum or rent a steam cleaner it will never look like it should.

Maybe one day!

Women wearing Men's boxers/briefs as Shorts

A picture I took from someone's old page, haha...Image via Wikipedia

Do you wear your husband's Hanes boxer briefs as shorts?  Maybe I'm the only one that would admit it anyway but I do wear his boxers around the house.

Now let me explain.  First of all they are so comfortable!  I wear boxers simply as shorts with a big t-shirt around the house as pj's.  I draw the line at fruit of the loom underwear and "tighty-whiteys".  I don't wear those  just the boxers.  In my opinion the woman's version of boxers are no where near as comfortable.

The same goes for Duofold long johns.  In my opinion the women's long john's are no where near as warm as the men's.  Same goes for his big over sized sweat shirts/pants.  I like to be warm and comfortable.  So if that means digging in my husband's dresser drawers so be it.

What about you?

The Puzzle that Didn't

I thought that I'd work on a puzzle to pass the time as it's frigid cold outside.  But this 1000 piece puzzle really started getting on my nervous once I had pieces that fit together to the eye but really didn't go together which totally ruins the outcome.  I didn't even get passed the outline when I woke up one morning and found our cat laying on it shuffling the pieces all over the floor that I decided I'd had enough of it.  I boxed it up and I'm donating it to the Goodwill.  Maybe someone could make good use of it.

Sigh

Other Uses for Baby Wipes - Not Just for Babies!

Huggies Natural Care Fragrance Free Baby Wipes Popup Refill, 216-Count Pack (Pack of 3)

You know that saying - "What's good for the goose is good for the gander"?  Well I feel this way about baby wipes.  Many many years ago when my little one was in diapers I put baby wipes to the test in all faucets.  There not just for baby behinds and cleaning their hands.  Here are a couple of the ways I used them.

Take Make Up Off
I used to use baby wipes and still do from time to time to take make up off my face.   For some reason I like to see what's coming off and a clean baby wipe allows me to do that and is a fraction of the cost of name brand make up remover wipes.  Plus they are soft and moist!

Refresh on a Hot Day
I pretty much lived in the Hot South all my life until I moved up to Ohio and there's nothing like a cool baby wipe to wipe the sweat off your face and refresh.  Even Ohio summers can get steamy at times and you bet I have a stash of baby wipes in my bathroom.

Cleaning
You really wouldn't believe how much dust you can clean up with a single baby wipe.  It sticks to it really well, has a pleasant scent and beats a lot of other things I've tried.  Whether it's the car, counter top, fast food restaurant seats, door handles or simply your hands after getting dirty, they clean up well.  Plus, you can see all the filth that came off.

Do you use baby wipes for other purposes than a baby?  If so share!

Personalized Valentine Gift Ideas

Before you head out the door with your shopping bags to do your Valentine's shopping check out a couple of ways to really out do yourself from last year.  When it comes to Valentine’s be ready to think outside the box.  Personalized gifts are treasured a lot longer than the average candy and flower.  Here are a few of my favorite ways to personalize gifts.

1.      Personalize Your Cards
Whether you make your own card or personalize an online card it can really blow someone away.  There are some sites where you can design, personalize with a special message and even print on your card right on your printer at home.  My personal favorite is a card with a cute photo of something memorable like an occasion, first date, dance from wedding etc.

Personalized Photo Books
These are great as well because you can tell a story.  Whether you make them from scratch or online, it stands to last many years longer because of the special meaning and memories behind it.  Maybe for Valentine’s Day you could tell a story of your life with your loved one.  Or even make one for the kids with a photo of each year with a Valentine’s photo with the corresponding year.

Valentine Photo Mugs
These are especially perfect for Moms, Dads, Grandparents etc since they can be personalized.  Add your kid's cute photo and an I love Grandma to make a wonderful keepsake to use and treasure year round.  Everyone that visits Grandma for coffee and brunch can say my what cute little Grand-kids you have!

Personalized Shopping Bags
Help the environment plus create a nifty gift all in one.  Personalized shopping bags can also be used all year long and you can even design your own online from many photo sites.  Have your Valentine shopping in style and thinking about you every shopping trip they make!

Of course there are many other ways to personalize gifts but even for the busy person, it just takes a little thinking and some creativeness.  So, whether you decide on creating  photo posters, hand made shirts from the kids or even some hand made pottery just remember it really is the thought that counts. I know some people spend a whole lot of money on things that may only last through the week but why not try something that lasts a whole lot longer?  What are some of your favorite ways to personalize Valentine’s Gifts?

Do your children know more than you do?

First it started with math and now its computers.  I’m sure we’ve all had a math problem or two that we just couldn’t help our kids with since it had been so long in our memory since we had done it.

Now it's computer skills of children in school that far extend a lot of adults who may not dabble with computers on a daily basis.  In fact as much as I use the computer I am amazed that my own kiddos try to tell me how I should do things like what keys to press how to save this and that.

As a matter of fact this is the first year that I discovered that if per say a kid forgets their  text book for homework that day, they can go online, punch in a code from the schools website and voila.  They can view their entire school book in a particular subject online.  They can even print out homework worksheets.  It may sound pretty basic but it's just laying a foundation.  Next thing you know they'll be learning about PDF Viewer, HTML, XML and other computer applications that some parents may not have a clue about.

When I was a kid if you didn’t bring your book home for homework then you either did it first thing on the bus that morning or just had to face the fact that you may be getting a zero on it.  In some ways that taught me responsibility.   Computers are literally taking over many aspects of life such as that.  Our children are the generation of computer wiz’s.   What about you, do you think your children know more than you do when it comes to computers?

How I relieve Stress

I don’t just blog online but as a past time I like to play games online.  For years I’ve been playing spades and hearts kicking butt.  Playing games can be a big stress reliever.   I think I could play cards with just about anyone.  Ever since hanging around Grandma who is the ultimate master card player in the family, I’ve become a fan.  At family gatherings and seeing all the adults playing euchre, dominoes, cribbage and many others I’ve grown quite fond.

I’ve played at bingo sites as well and that can be a fun game.  My first in person Bingo excursion was too long ago to remember too many details but I can tell you that I didn’t win.  It was neat watching all these elderly ladies really get into the game and well I wouldn’t want to mess with them.  They would kick butt and take names that’s for sure.

But I do love my card games the best!  I think it’s all about the mind and how you can manipulate the cards even if they are junk to try and win.  I think that's the main factor in relieving the stress is that your mind is totally focused on the game.

One game I can relate it to is Chess.  I love Chess as well and a big chunk of it is about brains and manipulating a strategy to take over your opponent and check mate them.  My husband and I play together from time to time and the winner is whoever wins the most of a three out of three match.  The winner gets bragging rights for the night.  I have tried to play Chess online but it’s really not my thing.   I like to play that one with the board and pieces right in front of me.

I guess I shouldn't leave out Mario, war games, and maybe even some Connect 4, Chutes and Ladders or Clue.  I've played all kinds!

How do you relieve stress?

Why I love Pinecone Research

The longest legit survey company that I have worked for is Pinecone Research.  If you ever hear of an opportunity to join do so.  Their surveys are not very long and are interesting as well.  Since I’ve been a member I’ve not only received surveys but have also been included in product tests.  The product tests are very neat plus you get paid for them!

You not only get to work from the comfort of your home but they will pay you either by company checks or PayPal after each survey so you never wait for your money since there is no minimum for payment.  My checks came promptly after I completed a survey and are great for a little extra cash.  Each survey pays three dollars.  I now use PayPal to receive payment from them and am just as happy with that.

I receive about three or more surveys a month but it varies.  I think some months I’ve seen more while others I’ve seen less.  The surveys range from household questions to opinions about new products.  One thing to keep in mind is that only one person from a household can be a member.  All in all this is a great survey site that’s worth putting the effort into if you are looking to pocket a few easy bucks!

I'm Old Fashioned

After engaging in my indoor workouts for winter, I got to browsing around the internet for a simple walk-man in preparation for the spring. This can't come any sooner!  We are under a winter watch as I type this....brrrr!

As far as looking forward to Spring, I realized how old fashioned I must be.  You see we do try to stay on top of technology.  We have an iPod at home, laptop, touch screen phones and things of that nature.  But to be honest, the iPod is tweenie's and we really don't need another one around here. It's cool and has many features and capabilities but for me personally it's not simple enough for what I'm going for.

I tried googling walk-mans and even they have changed (since the 80s-90s?).  I mean I would just like to walk around the neighborhood with local radio without carrying a touch screen with 100 options and without having to download anything to it.  That's just me.  Seems most have mp3 and other media capabilities.  I just want a simple, couple of buttons, small walk-man radio!

Then I came upon the Sony SRF-M37W Walkman Digital Tuning Weather/FM/AM Stereo Radio (Black)! This is it!  It even has weather band tuning which is perfect for me since the last major thunderstorm we had caused the power to go out after the weather sirens had went off.  So,  I had to have tweenie (before we had the laptop) open up the iPod wifi so we could see what in the world was going on and if we should scurry down to the basement.

So the Sony Walkman is on my wish list.  So far Amazon has the best bargain price at $26.84 beating Wal-Mart even.  Can you remember when you could get a walk-man back in the day for like $5.00?
